enero neirnmmsmmnamantt fare WN PSIVERSIT! LIBRARY eR eEIReT English 205, Section 2, Fall 02-03, Final Examination Explain how English literary history produced Thomas Gray. Primary amongst your considerations should be issues such as how literary language, forms, genres, and themes evolved from the Old English period to the late Eighteenth Century, where we find Gray. Identify the diverse, historically situated modes in which Gray's writing participates. To support your claims, use specific examples from the work of other writers, and from historic issues, which we discussed in class this semester. Try to cover as many time periods and writers as you can, without digressing from your discussion of Gray's influences. You may mention work which was not assigned for class, but should focus on the assigned readings. Write legibly, in complete, coherent sentences. A well-executed essay should be between 600 and 1,000 words in length (approximately 6-10 pages in your test booklet). Have fun!
