No food or bathroom breaks.
Problem I: (25 points)
The rigid beam ABCD shown Figure (I) is subjected to a uniform distributed load w and a
concentrated load of 4 kN as shown. Knowing that w = 4 kN/m, determine the following:
1) The support reactions at B and C. (DOUBLE CHECK YOUR REACTIONS) (5 points)
2) The shearing force diagram (S.F.D) and bending moment diagram (B.M.D)
of the beam ABCD.
(20 points)
Problem II: (25 points)

Problem III: (25 points)
Referring to the beam-bar system shown in Figure III, the concentrated downward vertical force
P is a moving load, and can assume any position on the beam between A and D. Determine the
positions of the load P and compute the corresponding force in Bar CE, for the following
cases:
A. Maximum Tension in Bar CE. (10 points)
B. Maximum Compression in Bar CE. (10 points)
C. Force in Bar CE is equal to P in tension. (5 points)
Note: You should compute one position and corresponding force for each of the cases above.
Problem IV: (25 points)
