We have to determine the bulk specific gravity and the apparent specific gravity and the
moisture and percent absorption of a coarse aggregate given the following information -
Dry weight= 500 g¢
Saturated surface dry weight= 950
Weight of polycemeter filled with water= 450 g
Weight of polycemetr filled with aggregate and water= 623 g
I don't know if the numbers are really accurate, but you have to'memorize the formulas and
know what does A,B, C,5 stand for.
Question 2 (12 points)
Sieve analysis, you are given 4 aggregates A, B, C and D, you have.first to find the
recommended percentage of B and D by drawing the graph of these 2 aggregates only( the
blend consist just of aggregates B and D). Then part b) you have to explain the procedure of
finding the recommended percentages of A, B,CD for a blend consisting of those 4”
agpregates. Thee pan C) 900 Reve to Gist ihe Sees ee eee
Question 3( 10 points)
Simple math problem where you are asked to find the % of fine aggregates recommended for
a blend and you are given 3 equations, it can be solved using 3-equation, 3-unknowns.[
remember that percentage of fine aggregate thal you must get is approximately 28 percent.
Question 4( 30 points)
Concrete Mix Design, All formulas and tables are given to you, and you must just follow the
10 steps for this design. It is easy just see the example posted on moodle.
Question 5( 13 points)
Marshall stability problem, you must know the formulas of calculating VTM, VMA, VFA
only, other formulas needed are given to you and also tables are given. You have to draw the
6 graphs and find the requirements at % air void= 4 %

2) Define equilibrium moisture content in wood
3) Effect of w/c ratio on strength of concrete
4) Soft steel is used in cold or hot weather? Explain
5) When the standard conditions are high, which type of cement is used?
6) All types of cement + application
7) Why does round aggregate need less water?
8) Why gypsum is used?
9) Why do we use air in concrete?
10) You must know the admixtures and the function of each.
